While gote remains central in Japanese bondage and especially in the didactics of bondage, it is worth noting that in practice, Japanese bondage offers many different options to tie the hands other than gote. Browsing older shibari pictures we can see an incredible variety of situations where the hands are tied in the front, or even more commonly to other objects.
During this workshop we will explore some of these possibilities, using bamboos and other implements to restrain the hands. We will demonstrate different possible applications, both in partials and full suspensions. The exercises aim at celebrating creativity, while still respecting the core principles of the traditional Japanese aesthetics.
Because of the nature of the proposed exercises, we suggest all the students bring different lenghts of ropes, at least 12 full lenghts and 2 half lenghts.
During this workshop we will train:
- Body handling, joint manipulation and weight distributionImpact of transitions on rope structures
- Improvising visually pleasing bondage
- Adapting ties to session context requirements
- Tension management
